3 Ways to Use Google Alerts for Your Business

If you are not yet using Google Alerts, then run (don't walk) to sign up. In a matter of minutes, you can arrange for Google to send you daily emails with links to any new web posting which mentions you, your company, your brand, your competitors, your best customer, and key words and phrases within industry.

Bad Reviews

In my view, the most important alert to set up is your name, company, and brand. If someone is writing something about you online, you want to know about it (especially if it is negative). For instance, if a customer posts a negative review on Yelp, you likely will want to post a reply. Further, time is of the essence in our new online world as Domino's Pizza learned when it failed to timely respond to two videos uploaded by its employees serving "adulterated" food.

Best Customers

Another one of my favorites involves your best customers. If one of them wins an award or gets good press, you want to send a congratulatory email. On the other hand, if they are filing for Chapter 11, you want to know that too.

Industry News

Finally, being alerted about key words and phrases in your industry is invaluable. It allows you to find articles on which you can post comments with a link back to your website which helps your natural search engine rankings. It also apprises you of good content for writing articles or blogging.

Simply to your Google Alerts and log in to your Google account. Simply type in the words or phrases which you want to follow. Voila! Critical content will be pushed to you automatically.
